I have always hated gels! I know hate is a strong word but it's honest. I hated that it gave my hair this hard/crunch/firmness feeling. I currently use Kinky-Curly Custard (protein free), and Bounce Curl light gel, but this one may be climbing to the top of my list. I also love that this gel is protein free!
Pros: It smells amazing! And it gave my curls just the right hold for my curls to last in the heat and humidity without the crunch. This gel is light and didn't leave flakes. My curls had sheen and bounce, my wash and go lasted a few days. I love it!
Cons: I don't currently have any cons. However, I would love to see how this gel works with other products I love.

    Afro Gelato

I absolutely love this product. My hair can shrink a lot, but with the afro gelato my hair lays long and is very soft. I am in love.

This is probably one of THEE most amazing gels I've ever used in my life! I used it for a wash & go and I received the best Curl definition EVER. It's really thin, has a LOT of slip, and a little goes a long way. It leave a slight cast, but all you need is a little oil on your hands to break it. I DEF recommend.

    good, but not great

Posted by Paris Florence on 7th Sep 2016

I tired this gel for hold when slicking my hair for a bun (I'm 4 b-c) and it smells amazing. I got the hold that I wanted initially, but it did not last throughout the day for me. I see a lot of ladies trying this for a wash n go styler, so maybe I should use if for another purpose. Using it as a regular gel for hold was meh. I also wanted it to be of a thicker consistency; seems kinda watery for a "gel". But soultanicals is my ish! so no worries, I'll find something of use with this lol.

I have been natural for 2 years now & this is one of the three gels that I love & use. I can't stand hard crunchy hair and I don't get crunchy hair with this, I get great definition, hold, doesn't dry my hair out. I love this gel!!

    My Favorite Gel So Far

Posted by Unknown on 24th Sep 2015

I'm not a fan of hair gels because they usually leave flakes or dry out my hair and make the curl crunchy. So far Afro Gel-lato is my favorite! And while I'm not a fan of fragrances and prefer unscented products, I like this product. Just a little is enough to slick back the edges and fly-aways. And no glycerin!! Yay! The only thing I would change? Make it fragrance-free. Please!!!

    Great Finisher!

Posted by Anastasia on 28th Aug 2015

I previously gave this product 3 stars because alone it did nothing for my hair. Now I've found a way that it works wonders!

I co-wash my hair once a week (clarify with shampoo as needed) and will do a mid-week conditioning rinse just to reset my hair mid-week. Sometimes my primary styler acts a little funny causing my curls to look stringy and feel dry. On a whim I decided to apply this on top of my primary styler. My curls instantly clumped together and hair got the extra moisture boost it needed.

Definitely worth having this product on hand on those days when my wash n' go just won't act right.

Maybe I Just Haven't Mastered This Product...

Posted by Anastasia on 25th Jul 2015

I bought this instead of Curl Blaze because my hair acts a bit funny with glycerin unless it's in rinse outs. I put this on soaking wet hair after my leave-in and saw no curl definition or hold. I had to use Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic over it to achieve that. Don't think this one is a reorder for me.

Not what I expected but turned out well enough...

Posted by Kira on 10th Jun 2015

At the time I purchased this product, I was still transitioning (but on the verge of bog chopping) and living in Jamaica, so I was looking for a gel that would provide, slip, hold and have no glycerin due to my wonderful year-round tropical climate. Excitedly I tried this product and ti was a womp-womp! I'm not sure if the Jamaican heat or I got an off batch but the consistency was very liquidy, not very tacky at all like you would expect a gel to be - so nothing like the description. When I applied it to my hair it didn't seem to do a thing but essentially wet my hair.So i wrote off the product for MONTHS. So this past weekend, i decided to do a wash an go for the upmteenth time on my fully 3cish/mainly 4a/4b natural tresses and i sat in front of my product stash not sure what products to use to attempt this feat. So I scanned through my stash and did various product mashups to test for white balls and decided to try out the Afro Gel-ato again. I essentially used it as a leave-in. As i said before it basically wet my hair...butttt it helped to set the base for my stylers (Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker for clumping and Eco-Stlyer Argan Oil for added hold). Afro Gel-ato may be the key to my first successful wash and go. If i am unable to find a cheaper, more easily accessible alternative then I will be repurchasing and probably try the Curl Glaze as well.

Where have you been my favorite product?

    Posted by Ms.SetItOff on 22nd Aug 2014

My washed curls were booming! My blow-outs were textured and held in the heat of summer! This helps my 4c/4z bra-strap Fro achieve Mane Fabulousness! The smell I don't like. It's like soap. I wish it was coconut or vanilla. It still will be my staple
